GetWell:) Network™
Your Connection to the World
Part of an optimal care experience involves staying connected to the outside world for support and to lessen the
impact of the interruption to your daily life. The Getwell:) Network™ (GWN)
can take you beyond the hospital walls via information (Internet), communication (email), and entertainment (movies).
The GetWell:) Network™ (GWN) provides Internet access and communication technology to patients' hospital rooms through
the television by using a special remote and a wireless computer keyboard. The network lets you order movies,
check e-mail, and surf the Internet. You can watch educational videos about various medical issues and procedures
at your convenience and your pace. Closed captioning is provided.
The network is available in patient rooms at Baptist's Downtown campus (including
Wolfson Children's Hospital)
and in patient rooms at
Baptist South.
In addition to receiving educational information via GWN, you can use it to page various departments in the hospital for
problems such as cold food or a broken light bulb. This gives you direct contact with the staff who can
resolve the problem and cuts down on the number of non-medical requests nurses receive.
The educational programs and access to the internet are free and available during your entire stay. Premium services such as first-run movie veiwing require payment of a small fee. GWN Gift cards are available for purchase in the gift shop.
The GetWell:) Network™ was conceived by Michael O'Neil, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1999.
While in the hospital, he wanted access to more information about his disease and designed the network to give
other patients what he didn't have at his fingertips. The network was first installed in a Virginia hospital in 2002
and Baptist is the first hospital in Florida to have it.
